All Those Books – So Little Time

January1

reading listI know that by now, most of you think I’m insane because, after all, I have joined fifty-two (52!) reading challenges for next year. (Here’s the list). Maybe I am a little touched in the head, but I told you I was a challenge addict.

But I do have a plan: a master reading list for next year that right now stands at 106 books and fulfills my entire reading obligation except for the picture books. (I figure I can fit them in somewhere.) Since I read 121 books in 2011 and am aiming for 150 this year, I figure that’s doable.

My only problem will be resisting all the new goodies I see this year until I’ve completed my challenges at the end of the year.

So, how about you? Do you have a reading list for 2012 or are reading catch as catch can – which I think I’d like to try in 2013!

I have a list of books I want to read in 2012, but I don’t want it to be too heavy as I want to leave room for books published in 2012 that I’m looking forward to reading as well. But I think it’s awesome to have such a long term plan!

Tanya, now that I have committed to so many specific books, I think I may regret it over the coming year. Maybe I’ll be able to be a bit more balanced in 2013. 😉

I managed to read 103 books in 2011 but only 32 of the 52 on my list, so I’ll be reading the others in 2012. Yes 52 challenges seems just a wee bit nutty but there’s nothing like being optimistic.! Happy New Year.

Ah, Katrina – you are the master of understatement – “a wee bit nutty” 🙂

Congratulations on the 103 books read: that is an accomplishment whether they were on your list or not – and that certainly illustrates the lure of new titles to make us leave the path of our good intentions.

    Have a great reading year!

I’ve been keenly following your reading challenges posts and I’m amazed at how many and how diverse they are. I will sign up for a few. You are a challenge addict but all your challenges make really good sense the way that you’ve planned them. I am fascinated actually and will be following your progress. I’m hoping to reading about 70 books and I’ll be using challenges to help me get there. Enjoy your reading in 2012.

Kinna, I’m so glad to hear that someone was following my reading challenges posts. I had imagined everyone rolling their eyes, saying ‘another one?’ and clicking ‘delete’ without reading. 🙂

I’ll be following your progress, as well, with your challenges. Happy reading in the coming year!

Good luck! I could never commit to a list that large. I’m doing the TBR pile challenge which is only 12 books and I hope I make that.

I’m feeling pangs of regret already, Leslie – but I’m still determined to try. And there’s always 2013 for spontaneity…

When and where do you read? Do you have a certain time of day, and a certain room/chair?

Heck, you can finish one challenge each week! :<)

Nan, my prime reading time is between supper and bedtime. Since I do the cooking, others in the house clean up after the evening meal, leaving me free from 6 or 7 until I fall asleep. Sometimes, I sit in the living room with my husband while he watches television, but mostly I get in my ‘jammies and get under the covers – at least, during these dark winter months. I also read while waiting in the car or at appointments, and (on my Kindle) while I’m on the treadmill.

    A challenge a week? I guess, theoretically… 😉

Oh My Lord … 52 challenges! Sounds like your entire year of reading is all planned out!!

Wow! That many challenges!! You are amazing 🙂
I like that though and I am always tempted to do more than I can so I can follow it. Good luck with all these challenges and happy reading!

I’m not even nearly-amazing until I finish them, Cessie, but thanks for the words of encouragement!
